Freaking Cute: Woodland Creatures Experiment

VERY EXCITED about this little family.  I designed them all by myself (no small feat as I can't draw worth a damn).

Mixed feelings about the porcupine... I have a home for this gal but I dunno if I wanna make any more of her.  IT TOOK FOREVER.  Gonna experiment with a different fourth animal for the tribe.

Overall assessment: even the non-porcupine related animals take sooooo long to make y'all.  They're $60-80 each in order to pay myself for the time spent.  So if you're interested in purchasing one-a these 100% handmade cuties, shoot me a message!

Busy busy busy.

So, I haven't updated in awhile.  Sold some stuff (on the cheap - still can't live off the craftiness), tried to get a bunch of gifts out the door (with varying success), came down with slow-moving, lingering, annoying cold.  Simultaneously working my regular job at the restaurant.  Really, I need to get out of that whole service industry deal before I lose my mind.  Anyway.

Experimented with my own woodland creature pattern 'cause I can't sell the Aimee Ray version, figured out how to embroider on black, got some awesome new fabric.  Here's some photos for now.  More soon.  Happy New Year!

More Bunny-Rabbits

Another Kmatw rabbit design, hand-embroidered on a Day-Off Bag.

This one is a lighter blue than the first one.  Also, I'm much happier with the stitching.  I'm calling it cornflower blue, after the Crayola crayon of my youth.

**Previously posted on etsy; now en route to a happy home.**

Woodland creatures a la Kmatw: bunny rabbits

Finished the prototype Bunny Rabbit Bag.  It's a simple li'l thing with a snap closure.  The lining is a lovely bird-n-owl fabric given to me by the Hummingbird.  The rabbit-design came from Kristin's assertion that woodland creatures are the next big thing.

Overall I'm pleased with the outcome.  A few of the embroidery stitches aren't as even as I would like, and I'm not sure why.  I think it has to do with the needle I was using.

I've already cut another one in a different shade of blue, to be stitched as soon as I can get to it.  It's waiting patiently behind a yoga-mat bag in progress and 2 small alteration jobs.  I think the second one will turn out beautifully - for me the second time's usually the charm.

In the meantime, I will let this one go for a reduced price since it's the first.  A sample sale, if you will.  I plan to charge $30 for future Bunny Rabbit Bags (embroidery-by-hand takes ever-so-long to finish).  This one, however, could be yours for $20, plus shipping.  Unless you live in NYC and we can arrange a hand-off.  Mosey on over to the Lavinia Nebbs etsy shop, or contact me for details.

Update: SOLD on 12/5/12.

#wip - Green Purse, Blue Rabbits

Just a coupla projects in progress...

Little green purse.  Making a yoga mat bag from this same material - I dunno what the hell it's technically called.  It's transparent, sort of a like a patterned chiffon, but not a silky texture?  And not flimsy like chiffon...  Is it organza?  But organza isn't transparent.... right?  People give me fabrics and I have no idea what to call them.  I need a fabric dictionary.

Anyway, since it's paired with a cream colored fabric, I'm calling the whole color scheme "Lime-Vanilla Ice," in honor of Dandelion Wine (the book containing the namesake for this blog).

More bunny rabbits a la Kristin Matwiczyk.  Last one was in slate blue, this is a bit brighter.  Kind of a cornflower blue (like the Crayola color of my youth- if they still even make that color).

New! Bunnies.

Kmat thinks that birds are over.  Woodland creatures are the next big thing, she says.

So she drew up some bunnies and beavers and what-not.  And I commenced to stitchin'.
