Grocery Tote... um... Naked Lady with a Tambo

$20 + shipping.

Simple tote. Two snaps, lined. Fabric came in a box of donations containing fancy designer-ish, kitschy, occasionally bizarre remnants.

Yes, that is a naked lady with a tambourine. Maids are a-milkin' and whatnot on the other side.  Buy and be this happy:

Purple Corduroy + Beads

$15 + shipping

So my friends have taken to giving me their old clothes, which I promptly butcher and salvage for cool fabric options.  Mostly denim and the occasional corduroy.  Most of the pouches you see here, were once my friends' pants.  These cords, however, were mine.  They served me well!

This is just a fun li'l zipper-pouch with beading detail.  See more on Etsy here.

Left of Centre Polka Dot Tote

$25 + shipping.

You are not seeing things. Those polka dots are slightly askew. Don't ask me why. This fabric was donated to me by someone with access to random fabric samples.

(As previously discussed, I now have fabric with corgis on it.)

Lined. Inside divider-pocket. Snap closure.
Satin-ish synthetic lining. The polka dots are velvety. Definitely one of a kind.
12" W x 11.5" H x 2.5" D
24" strap.

Find it in my etsy shop.

Hedge Fund: Blue Flower

The backing fabric for this guy used to be a skirt... I think... I'm pleased with this addition to the Hedge Fund line.  Trying some different color combos.

See it on Etsy here.

Hedge Fund, Purple

Another hedgehog zip-pouch.  Meant to be used as a coin-purse, but it does fit a standard-size ID.  "Nibs" the hedgehog was designed by my pal Kristin Matwiczyk.

This guy is purple, to match the fabric on the back.  Made from old jeans (recycled).  See the Etsy listing for more details.

Patchwork Tapestry Bag

I've been saving this piece of patchwork tapestry fabric FOREVER.  This pic doesn't really do it justice. Head on over to Etsy for more details.

Magnetic snap, inside divider pocket.

Owl Zipper Pouch, Blue (with stripes in back)

$25 + shipping.

I kinda love this guy.  The backing fabric coordinates beautifully with the embroidery, if I do say so myself.  But you'll have to click on the Etsy-listing to see more.

Sarong Flower Strikes Again.

$22 + shipping.
As previously stated, this fabric is called "sarong flower print."  I have no idea why.

But it's a really nice neutral fabric... kinds goes with everything.

This is a simple tote with a magnetic snap.  See the etsy listing here.

YMB: Sarong Flower Print

$28 + shipping.
When I bought this fabric online it was called, "Sarong Flower."  I have no idea what that means.  But I was pleasantly surprised.  There's a tote bag coming too.

See this bag on Etsy here.

This Bag Wants To Be On A Picnic With You.

$40 + shipping.
Love this fabric!  Medium-sized tote - carries a coupla books, a water bottle, shades, wallet, even a pair of spare sandals in the summertime.  I know, it's hard to think about summertime when it's 24 degrees out.  But I still envision this bag on a picnic in Central Park.

Ideal for city-livin', this bag also sports two easy-access deeeeep side pockets big enough for your phone and easy access to your Metro card.  Or a checkbook and ID.  Or whatever.

UPDATE:  I kept this bag.  Turns out it wanted to be on a picnic with ME!

Busy busy busy.

So, I haven't updated in awhile.  Sold some stuff (on the cheap - still can't live off the craftiness), tried to get a bunch of gifts out the door (with varying success), came down with slow-moving, lingering, annoying cold.  Simultaneously working my regular job at the restaurant.  Really, I need to get out of that whole service industry deal before I lose my mind.  Anyway.

Experimented with my own woodland creature pattern 'cause I can't sell the Aimee Ray version, figured out how to embroider on black, got some awesome new fabric.  Here's some photos for now.  More soon.  Happy New Year!

Embroidered change-purse in rouge.

I love this fabric.  As usual, I have no idea what this fabric actually is, but it embroiders beautifully.  It's the same stuff I used for this Two Birds, One Stone purse, as well as this sunglasses case.  Sort of a ribbed poly sateen type thing.

Whipped up this little change purse for a dear old friend.  It's a birthday/Xmas/any-other-holiday-I-might-have-missed kinda thang.

Tote in Snow White (a la Grimm) fabric

Licensed fabric, so this one's a gift.  Super-cute, with magnetic snap and piping on the sides.  Photo doesn't really do it justice.

See more totes here.

This one also falls under the category of Day-Off Bag.

Fabric-ulous.

I'm upstate and requested a Joann's Fabrics trip. Screw the garment district. I'll take Joann's or Hancock's any day. What can I say? I'm classy.

The place was crawling with moms and kids and miserable looking fathers. Total shitshow. But so worth it.

13 yards for $50ish. Take that, Mood.

Woodland creatures a la Kmatw: bunny rabbits

Finished the prototype Bunny Rabbit Bag.  It's a simple li'l thing with a snap closure.  The lining is a lovely bird-n-owl fabric given to me by the Hummingbird.  The rabbit-design came from Kristin's assertion that woodland creatures are the next big thing.

Overall I'm pleased with the outcome.  A few of the embroidery stitches aren't as even as I would like, and I'm not sure why.  I think it has to do with the needle I was using.

I've already cut another one in a different shade of blue, to be stitched as soon as I can get to it.  It's waiting patiently behind a yoga-mat bag in progress and 2 small alteration jobs.  I think the second one will turn out beautifully - for me the second time's usually the charm.

In the meantime, I will let this one go for a reduced price since it's the first.  A sample sale, if you will.  I plan to charge $30 for future Bunny Rabbit Bags (embroidery-by-hand takes ever-so-long to finish).  This one, however, could be yours for $20, plus shipping.  Unless you live in NYC and we can arrange a hand-off.  Mosey on over to the Lavinia Nebbs etsy shop, or contact me for details.

Update: SOLD on 12/5/12.

#wip - Green Purse, Blue Rabbits

Just a coupla projects in progress...

Little green purse.  Making a yoga mat bag from this same material - I dunno what the hell it's technically called.  It's transparent, sort of a like a patterned chiffon, but not a silky texture?  And not flimsy like chiffon...  Is it organza?  But organza isn't transparent.... right?  People give me fabrics and I have no idea what to call them.  I need a fabric dictionary.

Anyway, since it's paired with a cream colored fabric, I'm calling the whole color scheme "Lime-Vanilla Ice," in honor of Dandelion Wine (the book containing the namesake for this blog).

More bunny rabbits a la Kristin Matwiczyk.  Last one was in slate blue, this is a bit brighter.  Kind of a cornflower blue (like the Crayola color of my youth- if they still even make that color).
